Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
(OGTT)

For an Oral  Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), a person is fasting for 10 to 14  hours prior to the start of the test. To begin, a beverage  containing 75 grams glucose is consumed. Blood is then drawn every  half hour for 2 hours.

Diabetes is diagnosed if Plama Glucose  levels are:

Above 200 mg/dl

2 hours after consuming glucose load and at least 1 other time blood was drawn during the  test.

Women with gestational diabetes are  diagnosed using a modified OGTT. During pregnancy, a 100 gram  glucose beverage is consumed for the OGTT. Blood is drawn every hour  for 3 hours.

Gestational diabetes is diagnosed if  two or more plasma glucose levels equal or exceed these plasma  glucose levels:
