Random Plasma Glucose

This test is done at any time of the day, no matter when the last meal or beverage was taken. Above normal values are considered suspicious and further testing is recommended. It is used for screening.

If results of a random Plasma Glucose shows blood glucose above 200 mg/dl, however, and symptoms are present (thirst, increased urination, and unexplained weight loss) this test alone can warrant the diagnosis of diabetes.
